The exhibition is hosted in the most suitable place for such an exhibition. In fact, the Nova church presents at the top eight figures of saints and angels made entirely with the ancient system of rag papier-mâché. The white color and the cloths that wrap the internal structure, alone deserve a careful visit to the internal figures of the church.

However, the most striking are the statuettes on temporary display, which tell the story of five centuries of Lecce papier-mâché. They start with some Renaissance works, and gradually move on to more recent ones.

Many works come from the collection of Mario Di Donfrancesco, who has directed the sacred statuary and papier-mâché restoration workshop La bottega dell’arte since 1980.

Or from those of Claudio Riso, Paola Malecore and Francesco De Vita, artisans who inherit from father to son the ancient and sacred art of Lecce papier-mâché puppets.
