      Manduria Wars Museum

      amer scaled

The Civic Museum of Manduria, inaugurated in 2018, is a small treasure chest aimed at preserving the memory of the First and Second World Wars in the Messapian town.

It is located in the Servite monastic complex, whose foundation dates back to 1710. Following the 19th-century suppressions, the building was municipalized and used as a multi-family residential complex and tobacco factory.

The Civic Museum tells stories of reprisals, sacrifices and the horrors of war, but also of hospitality, love, exchange and enrichment that arise from the coexistence between soldiers and locals.

The display cases preserve relics from World War II, as well as traces of the experience of many Mandurians who left for World War I and the courageous story of the hero Cosimo Moccia, awarded the medal for military valor.

The Civic Museum is therefore a container of national history and trench life that aims to give honor and glory to civil and military service, a fundamental guarantor of the well-being of the State in times of war, but also in times of peace.
