The Specchia nativity scene includes the entire historic center of the Salento town. Every year 28 scenes are set up, with about 140 figures in period costume, with original tools no longer in use, in a magical itinerary of other times, where the typical trades of an ancient village, scenes of daily life and ancient flavors of tradition are recreated.

The ladies involved in the scenes explain to visitors how the old work tools work, such as the coal-fired iron, or the pot where clothes are boiled and washed, recycling the water which becomes shampoo and floor detergent.

Some men are busy writing, and when asked “what are you writing?” they answer a little disheartened, “nothing, the India ink has run out.”

Continuing along the streets of the town, you enter the old houses of the village and create a truly unique circuit, capable of showing the entire ancient town, with particular attention to the glimpses illuminated by Renaissance arches or balconies.
