Fiumarella, the stream with a thousand waterfalls

      fiumarella

The Fiumarella torrent rises on the southern side of the Dauni mountains, then crosses the entire Campanian Apennines and flows into the Ufita river, near Ariano Irpino.

The stream rises from some aquifers located in the Anzano valley (at an altitude of approximately 810 m above sea level).

The watercourse, with a tortuous course, crosses the territories of the municipalities of Anzano di Puglia, Scampitella, Vallesaccarda, San Sossio Baronia, Flumeri, Villanova del Battista and Ariano Irpino.

Characterized by an irregular water regime, the Fiumarella torrent flows into the Ufita river at an altitude of 312 m above sea level.

The Fiumarella valley is crossed for most of its length by the A16 motorway, in the section between the Grottaminarda and Vallata toll booths, along a route that roughly follows that of the ancient Via Aurelia Aeclanensis (also known as the Via ad Herdoniam), a Roman road that served as a branch of the Via Appia and the Via Aemilia.

Thanks to its extreme slope, in several stretches it forms steep waterfalls that fascinate and enchant visitors and those who choose to bathe in its clear waters.
