Cervaro, un nome per due fiumi di Puglia

With the same name in Puglia there are two different rivers. The first flows through the Tavoliere delle Puglie and flows into Lake Salso, near the Gulf of Manfredonia. The second is a short karst river that flows near Taranto and flows into the Mar Piccolo of the Ionian city.

The Cervaro Foggiano is a river known in antiquity, cited in the Naturalis Historia by Pliny the Elder with the name Cerbalus, in that text the river is remembered as the border of the territory of the Dauni.

The Cervaro tarantino owes its name to a temple dedicated to the goddess Ceres along its route.

The Convent of the Battendieri stood close to the Cervaro River, a few hundred metres from the coast of the Mar Piccolo, and right in the waterway the various friars used to wash and work the wool every day, thanks to the fulling of the same through the fulling mill, a machine that allowed the fabric to be beaten thanks to the energy obtained from the flow of the river current.

In the same waters of the old industrial plant today you can find yourself for a regenerating bath. It seems in fact that the waters of the river have particular properties. The watercourse is linked to the predominantly calcareous soil of the Murgia, which enriches it with calcium carbonate which, thanks also to the large number of reeds that enrich the mouth adding a large quantity of oxygen.

The effect, for those who enter its waters, is that of a charge of energy and a general sensation of relaxation.
