Carapelle, città di fiume e preghiera

The town of Carapelle takes its name from the stream that flows next to it. It is the classic cluster of houses that arose in the second half of the 18th century. The area, humid and marshy, was characterized by its unhealthiness, so King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon intervened with massive reclamation works. From that moment on, the village began to become more and more populated.

Today it is a lively town that lives mainly from agriculture and many families from Foggia have chosen to live there, given its proximity to the provincial capital. Carapelle only acquired administrative independence in modern times. In fact, until 1957, it was a hamlet of the nearby town of Ortanova.

Given its young age, the town does not have any particular architectural structures. However, around it, some real wonders are revealed. The Incoronata forest, where the large Sanctuary dedicated to the homonymous Black Madonna also stands. A little further on, it is possible to reach the archaeological area of Herdonia.
