San Lasi in una masseria rinascimentale

The Masseria di San Lasi, in the territory of Salve, at the gates of Morciano di Leuca, on the road that leads to the Maldives of Salento, or the beaches of Pescoluse, was recently declared a "Property of particularly important cultural interest".

On the day of San Biagio, known to the Salento people as San Lasi, it is possible to visit this example of a fortified farmhouse, which from its 100 meters above sea level dominates the entire surrounding territory.

On February 3, after mass in the nearby 14th century church, people go up to the masseria and bless the bread. Then they socialize and explore the place that hosts the event.

Masseria di San Lasi is composed of a large courtyard lined with almond trees, pomegranate trees, fig trees and prickly pear trees, ancient lavender bushes, thyme and rosemary. The presence of the palmento, the mangers, the apiary, the pergola, the oven, the dovecote tower and many construction and functional details, testify to the richness of life in the masseria. The medieval turret is the most characteristic element. Looking at it and dreaming you can see a lady in Renaissance costume coming down, and squinting you can see a knight climbing the stairs and running towards her.

A fortified farmhouse probably dating back to the 16th century, whose large spaces nevertheless seem intimate, giving the environment a protective and safe atmosphere.

The grey rock dotted with moss and lichen and the white tuff confuse it in time and space. We could be in Andalusia, and we haven't noticed.
