Galatone con gli occhi di un fumettista

Galatone é una cittadina di circa 17.000 abitanti e situata a più o meno metà strada tra Lecce e Gallipoli.

After crossing the Porta di San Sebastiano (the last of the three Renaissance entrance gates), you walk to the mother church, a building dating back to 1100, renovated and elaborated several times over the centuries, to the point of making it a sort of miniature Notre Dame, set between narrow streets and buildings that do not leave the right space to appreciate it in all its splendor.

Continuing along the same road is “Il Sedile”, the current seat of the city club and in the past the city parliament, a place of debate and municipal decisions.

Piazza Costadura, with its clock tower, recalls the location of a video game and it is pleasant to note how the picaresque and the more elegant soul mix in this public place that evokes suggestions of a feudal past.

Not to be forgotten, a little further on, is the sanctuary of the crucifix and the marquis palace. The latter houses two museums: the radio museum and the museum of Leonardo da Vinci's machines, rebuilt by an engineer from Galatona and which have been exhibited around the world.
