The Carnival of San Donato di Lecce is an event not to be missed, capable of involving the entire community in an atmosphere of celebration and creativity. With its tradition dating back to 1977, the event transforms the streets of the small Salento town into a real stage.
The first major event takes place with the opening of the Carnival period. The parade starts every year from Viale della Liberazione to reach the main square of the town.
Floats, masked groups and artistic performances follow one another, culminating in the awarding of prizes for the most beautiful and original creations. The evenings always end with a concert, offering a mix of music and fun.
A peculiarity of the Sandonatese Carnival is the pulling of the carts by tractors that for a period of time abandon their rural function and become cheerful draggers of popular joy and imagination.
