In the heart of the Salento peninsula, between the two seas that begin to approach before the final embrace. In Caprarica. On a hill. There is an adventure park dedicated exclusively to the history of Salento.
Twelve hectares of history, archaeology and nature.
Inside the archeodromo they have reconstructed six sections that start from protohistory up to the villages of the Bronze Age, to continue with a real Messapian city and then the world of the Romans. Finally, the medieval village and the subsequent peasant civilization.
A reconstruction that boasts important scientific partnerships, such as the school of specialization in classical and medieval archaeology of the University of Salento.
But what is an archeodrome?
It is a sort of open-air museum where, experimentally, the life of man from prehistory to the present day has been reconstructed. The name Kalòs comes from the griko and means beautiful, especially in a panoramic sense.
The archeodromo, in fact, stands on the Serra di Galugnano, a slight undulation of the land, considered an offshoot of the Salento Murge, approximately 110 metres above sea level.
In this area, about 3000 years ago, there was a Bronze Age settlement among the largest in Salento.
Today, parts of the ancient city walls and roads remain. The site was also frequented in Roman times and was known by the name of Li Sierri of Tiberius, Octavius and Constantine.
The archaeological reconstructions are scientific, that is, based on the excavation data of the research conducted by the University of Salento in the various sites of the territory, such as Cavallino, Oria, San Vito dei Normanni, Vaste, Nardò, Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca.
In the park it is possible to take guided tours, workshops and experimental archaeology. Always with the help of specialized and professional operators
